Mandy is a senior! I had never met Mandy before our first session but recognized her from St. Charles North High School and had watched her leading the marching band. A mutual friend sent her to me for her senior session and she had some great ideas for what she wanted to do. The first day we met turned out to be very wet and humid so she wore this adorable black wool coat and riding boots. This is the perfect outfit for fall in Chicagoland and very classic, which works great for portraits you plan to keep forever. Mandy's portraits were taken around St. Charles. We decided it was fun to include local favorite places and some hidden gems during the session. There are so many places close by that locals sometimes forget to visit and enjoy.
We tried to dodge in and out of my car, under awnings and into doorways, and hid in tree cover and woods to avoid rain. It turned out that the rain was an asset creating beautiful bright coloring and reflections. One of the things I loved the most about Mandy's rainy day was her lack of concern for the awful weather and ability to adapt to the conditions we had in the moment. I think it really exemplifies the kind of person she is and reminds me of a great quote. "Life isn't about the storms you face, it's about learning to dance in the rain!" This quality will serve her well in her future at college and beyond.
We were cut short during this rainy session and had to finish another day, which I will share later. I am excited for everyone to see how a different location, outfit and weather changed the style of Mandy's remaining portraits. Thanks, Mandy, for being very flexible.
