To have and to hold, from this day forward....until we laugh ourselves to death.
The Mitchel wedding was seriously so much fun that it was hard to remember that I was actually working. Helping Melissa Leigh Hansen Photography at their wedding in Streator, IL, a place where we had never been before, was well worth the trip across our state. The quaint midwest town has an old fashioned downtown area with restaurants, parks, shops and brick buildings that appear as if they came straight out of a movie.
From the moment I stepped inside their venue and saw the amazing details of this historic building and then met the happy couple, I knew we were going to have a great day. There was so much beauty in the restored Masonic Temple venue, now known as The Silver Fox. The ceiling tiles, originally wood work and glass, and theatre seating were done to perfection. The couple decorated with old books, (He is a librarian.) unique wine bottles, gold finishes and teal colored glass pumpkins. They had travel vignettes at their table seating and guest book areas and an "UP" cake topper. What really stood out the most to me was the couple themselves.
While on your wedding day, you are expected to be a bundle of nerves and worried that every detail plays out perfectly, the laid back vibe of Katie and Nic was very refreshing. They laughed and played around with their families, groomsmen and bridesmaids. Neither was afraid to laugh out loud or crack a smile as they exchanged vows and participated in their ceremony. I was thrilled that they took special caution in finding a officiant who reflected their own values and beliefs but also knew them personally and could share a true love story. After the wedding, we followed the couple in their horse drawn carriage around downtown Streator and were able to capture them just being themselves, playful and jovial. They enjoyed some time to just share their story with us and let us capture moments together.
I am sharing these particularly playful photos today because I think sometimes people get all serious at weddings and it becomes too formal and stuffy. Some couples and their parents are so worried about pleasing everyone with perfection that they forget to enjoy their own day and have fun together. These photos show you exactly what a couple in love and confident in their love story is really all about it. Thank you so much for including me in this awesome wedding day!
May you live happily ever after, laughing all the way!
